Let's milk some cows!
Join us for our third visit to Gilkinson's Dairy Farm. Explorers will have the chance to see a family-run dairy farm in action at milking time. Watch how the machines milk the cows, then try it yourself! Owner Ralph Gilkinson says that they currently have eight newborn calves and another on the way, so the children will get to visit with the baby cows and the ever-popular barn kittens as well. Kids will be kids on the farm, so please dress for the mess!!

Big Equipment Day!
The North East Borough Maintenance Office is opening their doors to the Erie Explorers for a morning of big equipment exploration. Check out the street sweeper, snow plows, bulldozers and more! Explorers will get some hands-on time with the machinery, as well as a short lesson about the functions of each vehicle from NE Borough staff.

Let's build a ship!
The Bayfront Center for Maritime Studies does a wonderful program showing the kids how ships are built. We will see boats and canoes that have either been restored or built by hand, andl have the opportunity to handle some "tools of the trade". Check out their web site for more information. Please note the time on the first session of this trip. The Center has summer camp programs running in the morning, so our trip dips into the lunch hour (feed the kids a big snack before they come!) There are picnic tables around the dock area if you'd like to pack a lunch for afterward.

Paint with the animals!
Have you ever seen a snake paint? How about a macaw? Today you will! The Erie Zoo is bringing in some of their residents for a little arts and crafts time with the Explorers. Watch the animals paint and make a masterpiece of your own! Explorers are welcome to visit the zoo following the field trip. Zoo members are FREE and non-members will get a discount rate of $4 (ages 12 and up), $3 (ages 2-11), under 2 FREE.

Goodell Gardens
Pollinators: The Butterflies and The Bees. Learn all about pollination and play the Honeybee game! Goodell Gardens & Homestead is a non-profit, education-oriented botanical garden and arboretum on the 78-acre Goodell family farm in Edinboro PA that emulates the Goodell family passion for gardening, history and horticulture. Goodell Gardens provides for the care of a significant collection of both botanical specimens and local historical archives.

Come explore the lagoons at Presque Isle!
Back by popular demand, the staff of Presque Isle State Park is taking us on an exciting pontoon boat ride through the lagoons of the peninsula. We'll learn about native animals, their habitats and plant life in the area. Due to the limited seating on the boats, we have reserved two sessions for this trip. Please choose the one that works best for you and your family. To make sure that none of our Explorers are left out, please limit your group to immediate family only. The park provides free, public pontoon boat rides daily if you'd like to return with guests.

Lagoon Launch, PI State Park. Directions: The launch is located about 6 miles into the park. Go past Perry Monument, over the bridge and it's the 3rd dirt drive on the left. ONCE YOU ENTER THE PARK, IT WILL TAKE AN ADDITIONAL 20 MINUTES TO REACH THE LAUNCH. Please give yourself extra time. The boats will depart at exactly 10:00AM and 3:00PM.

Dry Gulch!!
Last, but certainly NOT least, we'll be returning to Dry Gulch in Findley Lake for a morning of mining fun! Past Explorers have had a blast searching for fools gold, precious gems and arrowheads at this unique mine. Sheriff Bill really knows how to get this kids interested in gem-hunting, but don't get too wild - you could end up in JAIL!! Bring a lunch and stick around for the picnic after the trip.
