Do you have questions? We have answers!
What do Erie Explorers do?
Children and parents go together on field trips to regional parks, businesses and attractions to enhance the children's understanding of the world around them.
Who can be an Erie Explorer?
The field trips are geared for children ages 3-8, but older and younger siblings are encouraged to attend.
Is membership free?
YES! Membership to Erie Explorers is FREE. Some of the field trips have a small fee charged by the establishment hosting the tour, usually under $5 per child.
How did the group start?
Jennifer and Taith Rupp, formerly of Erie, Pennsylvania, formed the group in May 2007 as a way to carry their daughter's learning momentum through the summer months, while still spending family time together. The Summer 2009 Field Trip Coordinator is Heather Goodenow, founding member.
What kinds of trips do the Explorers go on?
During the inaugural summer season, Erie Explorers had the opportunity to spray a real firehouse, milk a cow, board a private jet plane, ride a pontoon boat through the marshes at Presque Isle, mine for gems, and see how potato chips are made.
When does the group meet?
The Summer 2009 field trips will take place bi-weekly beginning the week of June 8th. Most trips will begin around 10am and last between one and two hours. Occasionally, Explorers will be invited to stay on for a brown-bag lunch or to enjoy concessions at the venue.
How do I start a chapter in my city?
Read about starting a new chapter here.
Can I promote my business to fellow group members while on field trips?
No. The main purpose of any Erie Explorers function is social and educational growth. Group functions may not be used as a means to distribute or advertise a product or service.
Do I have to attend all of the field trips?
No. You may join as many or as few trips as you like. Some trips may have RSVP requirements for the convenience of the venue who is hosting our trip. You can RSVP via the Voyages page of the website, by sending an email or by phone.
