Erie Explorers Founders

Jennifer and Taith Rupp, Founders

Jennifer and Taith developed the idea of Erie Explorers in Erie, Pennsylvania in May 2007. They value the opportunity they have as parents to share a wealth of knowledge with their children. They hope Erie Explorers will encourage others to do the same. The group has undergone a couple of name changes, formerly Everyday Explorers, then Eday Explorers. The founders made the final switch to Erie Explorers because they felt that the name encompassed the true community sense of the group, with Erie being its home base.

How it Started.

If you are reading this, then you are probably concerned about your children's education, want to give them every opportunity to succeed and believe that learning should be a part of everyday life. This feeling is what started the effort to make a change in the way we live and see the world.

Realizing our daughter had developed a strong momentum for learning, we were thinking about what we could do to make sure that momentum was continued through the summer vacation. After brainstorming about the different places that we could visit and both learn something at, we asked a few other parents if they would like to join us. They did and we really enjoyed the trip. As the word got around, the group quickly grew to more than a dozen kids that we eventually dubbed it "Erie Explorers". The children really liked being part of the group and we designed a logo and tee-shirt for them. Everyone had pictures they wanted to share and a website seemed the easiest thing to do for that. From there, the group continues to grow and the trips are tons of fun.

Why Field Trips?

Kids learn best when parents actively engage them in the learning process. Each trip creates a dynamic learning environment where both the parent/s and kids learn something. "Brown bag lunches" that follow some of the trips are a lot of fun and are a great opportunity for the parents and children to socialize.

The trips also create memories that will last a lifetime and enable us to experience field trips WITH your children.
